During mid-July, KVH employees brought in items urgently needed by the Rhode Island Community Food Bank for its Summer Food Drive. The overall goal for the statewide organization was to raise 150,000 pounds of food during June, July, and August. The Summer Food Drive is particularly important given that youth are not receiving meals at school and donations are typically slow.
KVH targeted two weeks in July to conduct its own campaign for the Summer Food Drive. In the middle of the first week, KVH employees got a food-related treat – and a break from one of the hottest days on record – when the KVH Charitable Giving Committee arranged for local vendor Pete’s Ice Cream Truck to visit KVH and give a free ice cream treat as an incentive to donate to the RI Food Bank.
It worked! With food items collected at both locations in Middletown – 50 and 75 Enterprise Center – KVH was able to donate more than 200 pounds of food.
