KVH employees bring warmth and cheer to those in need

During the 2010 holiday season, staff at KVH’s offices around the country and around the world reached out to support those in need.

At KVH headquarters in Middletown, RI, staff members collected more than 30 bags of gently used clothes to support the Big Sisters of Rhode Island, a statewide mentoring organization dedicated to making a positive impact on at-risk children. Alongside the full box for Big Sisters was a Christmas tree adorned with over 60 hats, scarves, and pairs of gloves and mittens, all of which were given to the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center in Newport, RI. Over the course of its 87-year existence, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center has grown to become a multi-service agency providing nutritional, cultural, educational, and social services to residents of Newport County.

In addition to these efforts, KVH and its Middletown, RI staff donated more than $27,500 to the United Way of RI to support a variety of charities, including the United Way’s 2-1-1 resource hotline and Community Impact Fund. In 2011, this fund will help Rhode Islanders find the employment, housing, and education they need.

In Tinley Park, IL, KVH employees generously supported local children and soldiers around the world. In their second annual holiday toy drive for the Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation, employees collected 135 toys that will be given to children and teens who must undergo painful procedures as part of their cancer treatment.

These employees went on to spread their holiday cheer around the globe, sending signed holiday cards and nearly 100 boxes of candy canes to a 46-member platoon of U.S. military personnel through Adopt A Platoon’s Operation Holiday Eagle. It’s no surprise that these employees, who manufacture KVH’s military products, plan to support more Adopt A Platoon drives in 2011!

Employees at KVH’s European office in Kokkedal, Denmark, send holiday cards to their business partners across the continent each year, and this year decided to purchase cards whose sale benefits a children’s cancer support network. These holiday cards are working extra hard – bringing smiles not only to their recipients, but to the children who will benefit from their purchase.
