Ida Lewis Yacht Club Prepares for 2010 Distance Race with KVH’s Help

September and the end of summer may only be a few weeks away but the sailing competitions are still going strong here in Newport. Up next is the Ida Lewis Yacht Club Distance Race, and KVH is proud to be a sponsor of this exciting and challenging competition. Offering the choice of a 155 nautical mile course and a 177 nautical mile course as well as a 150 mile Juniors course, the Distance Race draws sailors from around the region.

While members of the KVH staff have competed in this race in past years, this marks the first time that we’ve been actively involved in supporting the event. This year, we’re pleased to help out by:

  • serving as a Finish Line sponsor
  • commissioning a perpetual trophy for the PHRF Crusing Spinnaker Class, a trophy named for KVH founder Arent Kits van Heyningen
  • helping to fund the use of the Kattack LIVE system for real-time competitor tracking on the web, and
  • contributing to the Ida Lewis silent auction to raise funds to support the Juniors event, in which at least 50% of the boat’s crew must be at least 14 but younger than 19

Best of luck, fair winds and safe sailing to all the competitors this weekend!
