Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Day 1

TracVision HD11 makes its U.S. debut!

The 2011 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show is living up to its reputation as the world’s premiere marine event. Builders from all over the world are displaying the finest collection of yachts ever assembled.  Every category from jet skis to megayachts is well represented, as are the latest developments in marine electronics and entertainment equipment.

KVH’s booth opened early this morning with Bob Balog, senior vice president of engineering and Peter Lund, TracVision product manager reviewing the many exciting features of the new TracVision HD11 with our field sales force and top dealers. The feedback we’re receiving is fantastic. KVH engineers have done a great job listening to customers and dealers and have come up with a product that overcomes the limitations of existing, competing products in the 1m category.

Representing an entirely new approach, the TracVision HD-11 provides global reception of ANY satellite TV service — Ku or Ka band, linear or circular — automagically! Amazingly, this is the first global satellite TV system that allows large yacht owners to watch the super high quality HDTV service that KVH has been delivering customers with smaller vessels for the past two years with the TracVision HD7.

While customers are excited about the TracVision HD11’s  unbelievable picture quality, hands-free operation, and iPad® app for simple satellite selection, the dealers were equally excited about the technical features. One look at the inside of the unit shows the elegant simplicity of a well-conceived mechanical design that tracks through 1-1/2 times the Inmarsat motion specification for satellite antennas. No “Rube Goldbricking” here! Simple modules that can be accessed (and replaced if necessary) are accessible through the TracVision HD11’s dual service ports.

The lightest antenna in its class, the TracVision HD11 also uses the same bolt pattern as older non- HDTV 1-meter antennas for easier installation, and an automatic switching box enables permanent installation of satellite receivers from different services for added convenience.  While customers using competing antennas are hiring technicians to climb up into the radome to change LNBs and ripping out satellite receivers to replace with ones that cover their new location, TracVision HD11 customers simply pull out their iPhone® or iPad and push a button – everything else is automatic!

So far, it has been a lot of fun sharing this exciting new product with KVH customers and dealers – we’re looking forward to the rest of the show!
